In 1926 a Canadian Pacific Railway employee named Jack Cartwright lived for a period of time in a small cave in the woods a couple of kilometers from where I live. I only found out about it because someone put a geocache there.

This is the cave entrance. A smaller person than myself might be able to crawl in on hands and knees, but I had to scramble along on my belly.

The view from inside, showing that the cave extends straight back for a total of about two and half meters.

Looking right, the cave extends for perhaps three meters. Possibly a bit more. The black flecks on the roof of the cave are mosquitoes.

Looking left, there are a couple of tiny chambers extending for another three or four meters. You can't see it here, but the first chamber is high enough to sit up in, though there wouldn't be a lot of space between your nose and the rock.

Just above the cave mouth there is this carved inscription. I didn't write down what it says because I figured I had a picture of it, but as you can see it's hard to read from the photo. I believe it says "J.A.C. Aug 10 1926".

A few meters to the right of the cave Cartwright carved a self-portrait.

Here it is in close-up.
