Today was my monthly weigh-in. I put in less time on the exercise cycle this month than last, got out geocaching less often and had a couple of eating binges, so I wasn't expecting good news. However the scale continued to play the contrarian, claiming that I'd lost another 5.5 pounds. Go figure.

At least this time my sense of my own body was more on track. I didn't feel like I'd gained any weight and if anything the belt on my jeans seemed a bit looser.

Part of the credit has to go to eating more healthily. All of those frozen dinners I bored you with, plus a bunch more I haven't entered yet, were not just nutritionally better than my usual fare but less calorie dense as well. Heck, I even made myself chicken caesar salad three or four times and ate a few pieces of fruit!

I also tried to space out my meals a bit better by waiting at least four hours between them. I know that modern theory is that it's better for your body if you eat a lot of small meals throughout the day, but I just end up eating a lot of large ones. So fewer meals, spaced further apart. It didn't work all the time but it did more often than not and that definitely reduced my total food consumption.

The two binges notwithstanding, I also reduced my late night snacking over this past month. I'm not sure how that happened since I was not consciously trying to do so. It could be a side-effect of the more regular meal schedule, I suppose. It might also be due to my being extra busy with work this past month, since I know that I tend to forget about food when I'm deeply involved in something.

And there's my secret weapon. For the past few days I've not been feeling well. Upset stomach and mild diarrhea. So it's possible that much, if not all, of the 5.5 pounds is due to fluid loss. I'll take it.
