As a dreamwidth minion, my paramour has been perched on the edge of zir chair for the past six or so hours, eyes glued to the computer screen and muttering quietly to zirself. Every now and then there'll be a whoosh! of breath being exhaled followed by a sotto voce comment to the effect of, "There, it's finally calmed down".
"it" is some aspect of DW's volunteer support infrastructure and whatever "it" is, it doesn't seem to stay calm for very long. Given the intensity of the paramour's concentration I keep expecting to see ICBMs criss-crossing the sky, but so far no visible catastrophes have unfolded and, near as I can tell, the Earth continues to rotate at roughly the same speed as it did yesterday.
zie also seems to be having a great time. Go figure.
I, on the other hand, am decidedly not a DW minion. It seems to me that there are altogether too many helping hands available to make this a realistic Beta test of dreamwidth so, at great personal sacrifice, I've decided to eschew any active involvement in DW support activities. I have instead taken it upon myself to adopt the more common role of social site users, that of a parasite. To be a dreamwidth boat anchor, if you will, consuming the site's resources without offering anything of value in return.
At least, that had been my plan, until I discovered that the paramour is not so caught up in zir online mania that zie can't spare a few neurons to reach out and whap me in the occasional fit of misplaced zeal.
Still, zie has to sleep some time, mustn't zie?
Until then, I think I shall amuse myself by working on my income taxes. After all, they are due in about five minutes.
