Paying The Piper
Apr. 3rd, 2011 11:44 pmI've been a bit, shall we say, lax with regard to my personal finances of late. Specifically, I haven't updated my books since September of 2009.
Yesterday I took the bull by the horns and began digging into the backlog, entering 18 months worth of bank, credit card and line of credit statements into my financial app. Today I went through the last 18 months of bills and entered them against the accounts. Then tonight I went through 18 months worth of receipts, which was the most gruelling bit of it all.
All told, I spent about 20 hours this weekend bringing the books up to date. My back is sore from all that time spent hunched over the keyboard, which seems odd given that I normally spend all of my time hunched over a keyboard.
Now that it's done, I'll make the same vow that I always do, never to let it build up like that again. Let's see if I can stick to it this time.
